Ugh, what a time I've had! Several days ago I was in the cellar, not more than 15 min., when part of the ceiling & insulation came down & water came pouring through. I went upstairs & found the master bathroom filled with water. It was flowing into the linen closet & bedroom. Water was blasting toward the ceiling like a geyser & raining back down so hard that I couldn't even see where it was coming from. It looked like a scene from a movie! I knew there was a knob under the toilet tank & I turned it off. It really looked like the water was coming from the ceiling & I didn't think turning the knob would work, but luckily, it did. The thing that connects the pipe to the bottom of the toilet tank had a plastic screw-on connector & it had turned brittle & snapped. The whole time I kept thinking, "OMG, what if the water gets into the electrical system & starts a fire!" Leave it to me to be thinking of fire when I'm practically drowning! LOL
It was late & DH had been out of state, so I had to wait till the next day to get help. My one BIL came over & fixed it. He showed me where my shut off valves are too. The replacement part was only $4. When DH got home on Sat., I had him check every one of these things in the house.
So, here's a good lesson: make sure you all know where all your shut-off valves are & check the connectors under your toilets, sinks, washing machine. Not sure about a dishwasher as I never had one. If the plastic part is old or looks brittle, replace it; it's cheap & will save you from having a royal mess, especially if you're out of the house for several hours a day. You wouldn't believe how much water came through that pipe in just a few minutes! DH is replacing all of these connectors with ones that have the metal screw-ons; they are the same price.
On a good note, most of my spring cleaning is now done & alot of junk I was holding onto in the cellar is gone. Nothing motivates like a boatload of water in the house!
Oh, you can laugh. Now that it's over I can imagine how hilarious it must have looked, especially as frantic as I was. I just hope it doesn't get moldy under the floor & there's 1 wall DH might have to replace, as the drywall does not seem to want to completely dry. We didn't call the insurance co.; afraid our premiums would go up more than it would cost to fix a few things ourselves.
So, I didn't get to melt much lately. I wanted to get the melters empty, cleaned up, & ready for my big order, but the "waterworks" ruined my plan. I only managed to get 5 melters empty & have been melting small amounts from my order so I can leave accurate feedback asap. I'm just melting enough of each in different rooms to get a feel for each scent. I just have a few more to go. After I'm done leaving feedback, I'll go back & melt each scent "properly" & then give a review. I'm hoping to take 1 or 2 days & just rest & melt, as I am totally exhausted right down to my very soul from all the excitement around here.
I just wanted to check in here quick & let you know what's been going on. Didn't want you to think DH had killed me. LOL He doesn't know how many bags I ordered! I've really been missing you all & things should be back to normal in a day or 2. Then I'll be back & really catch up.
